How about you?

Feel free to share in the comments what you ate today. I have a sneaking suspicion it will make one of us feel better.

Day 7: Early Church = Not Enough Time for Breakfast

We're still adjusting to the switch from 1pm church to 9 am church, and so Sunday mornings usually mean no breakfast for mommy.
  • 1/2 c Miles leftover dry Multigrain cheerios ( at 12.3o during my RS presidency meeting)
  • leftover polenta, ratatouille & bruschetta, glass of water (lunch)
  • 3 bites Grace's pear cobbler
  • 10 potato chips
  • Mexican salad, glass of water (dinner)
  • instant hot cocoa

Day 6: Goal Breaking Saturday

Since we only get to eat breakfast with Adam once a week, we typically make something delicious and decadent. Today it was raspberry pancakes, with a choice of toppings: Nutella, sweetened cream cheese, natural peanut butter, and maple syrup. They were small-ish pancakes, but we all still ate more than we needed to (Miles and Grace each packed away 4!).
  • 5 pancakes (2 with Nutella, 3 with maple syrup and peanut butter), 1 tall glass of water (breakfast)
  • leftover potpie from last night, glass of water (lunch)
  • 12 chocolate chips
  • Dannon 6oz. yogurt
  • 2 servings oozing stripey jell-o salad
  • 3 triangles of pita with melted gruyere
  • Baked polenta w/ratatouille provençal, beet & pear salad, rosemary & sea salt foccacia w/tomato-basil bruschetta (late dinner -- after 8.30 pm :( )
  • ginger-pear crisp with gingersnap ice cream (DESSERT! OH NO!)
We had dinner guests -- who brought dessert. What to do?!? Good thing this is a goal and not a resolution.

I'll be back on the wagon tomorrow.

Day 5: Eggs, eggs, and more eggs.

With the pullets now laying, we are coming into a lot of eggs. Almost too many for us to keep up with, now that I am baking less. At the same time, I am trying to serve more hot breakfasts, thinking it will be healthier and cheaper to eat things like oatmeal and eggs in place of cold cereal, with the added benefit of us all staying full longer (my kids are perpetually hungry). Scrambled eggs once a week seems like a good way to address the egg surplus and also fill us up.
  • 2 scrambled eggs on whole wheat toast, 1 glass water (breakfast)
  • 1 berry Gogurt (declined by Nico)
  • apx. 1/4 TJs jumbo raisins
  • 1 serving TJs version of Pirate Booty, 1/2 glass water
  • 2 graham crackers w/ nutella
  • 1.5 servings (I know, I know! But I missed lunch, so I figured it would be okay) of homemade chicken potpie, an obscene amount of broccoli, 1 glass water (dinner)
I sooooo need to drink more!

Day 4: Adam in Chicago

I have a thing about toast and my mother's house: I can't leave 240 Greene Ave. without having eaten at least a slice. It's odd, I know. I was there this morning with my oldest brother who, just as he did when we were young, stole half of my English muffin when while I had my back to it. Hence, the rye toast substitute.
  • big bowl of oatmeal w/ pecans and brown sugar (breakfast)
  • 1/2 English muffin, 1 slice of rye toast, both w/ SB
  • 100 calorie pack of yogurt covered pretzels
  • leftover chicken, mushrooms and pasta from last night (lunch)
  • 2 slices homemade pizza, 3 bread sticks, one w/ marinara, two w/ sweet dip.(dinner)

Day 3: Census Exam / Citizen of the Month Party

I tend to eat a lot less when I am anxious about something. Today it was about making my afternoon run smoothly. Between getting the house ready for a neighbor gathering, dropping kids to Ami's so I could take the Census exam, getting to the PTA meeting on time, and hosting our friends and their children in the evening, the schedule was chock-full and I was low on time.

  • 1 large bowl of oatmeal w/ blueberries & a sprinkle of brown sugar (man, am I full!)
  • roughly 1/4 cup of dry rice Chex, Craisins, chocolate chips mixed together
  • 2 c popcorn, glass water
  • spaghetti with chicken, mushrooms, butter, and parmasean
  • strawberries & grapes w/sour cream-based fruit dip
  • vanilla cupcake w/ chocolate buttercream (hurray for dessert of the week!), 2 small cups water
  • 2 guacamole-flavored tortilla chips

Day 2: Hungrier than yesterday.

  • 1 bowl Multigrain cheerios w/ 1% milk
  • 1 generous serving of popcorn
  • 1 small slice of mediocre cake from my neighbor (so I could tell her I liked it when she asks -- which she will)
  • leftover Mulligatawny stew on white rice, 1 glass water
  • 1 graham cracker, 12 milk chocolate chips
  • helped Grace and Miles lick the cupcake bowl
  • 2 slices honey whole wheat toast, glass of water
  • 1 Pork Meatball Banh Mi (which were super yummy, BTW), a whole heap of edamame, 1/2 glass water

Day 1: A new start for a new year.

I think I'm off to an okay start in terms of quantity, although quality seems to be lacking. There is a startling lack of vegetables and water...
  • 2 leftover popovers w/ Smart Balance and raspberry jam
  • 5 slices of salami (7 in a serving) on 5 Ritz crackers, 1/2 glass of water.
  • my serving of tofu chocolate mousse from last night (I was too full after dinner to eat it), the remains of Grace and Miles pasta
  • Mulligatawny stew over white rice, 2 slices honey whole wheat bread w/ Smart Balance, 1/2 glass water.
